Paul Sampson
Counsellor
Hello, my name is Paul and I am an Executive and Therapeutic Coach currently training in psychotherapy (MA / Level 7) at Roehampton University. Alongside my academic training, I bring over ten years of experience working therapeutically with senior executives, business owners, current and former athletes, military personnel and blue light responders. I am also a former international athlete, and this background has shaped my understanding of performance pressure, identity, discipline, resilience and the psychological impact of high-expectation environments. Over the years, I have supported individuals presenting with both everyday life challenges and profession-specific difficulties, including anxiety, stress, addiction, PTSD and issues related to transition, purpose and identity. My work is grounded in extensive coaching practice, supervised clinical training and a strong belief that meaningful change occurs when people feel deeply understood rather than judged.
I work with a wide range of presenting issues, including: • Anxiety, stress and depression • PTSD and addiction • Identity, purpose and life transitions • Performance pressure and burnout • Leadership challenges and decision-making fatigue • Relationship and self-esteem difficulties Together, we may explore how past experiences influence present patterns, how you relate to yourself and others, and how you wish to move forward with greater awareness and balance.
I offer a confidential, supportive and grounded space where you can speak openly and honestly about what is happening in your life. Many people I work with are highly capable on the outside yet privately struggling with pressure, self-doubt, emotional regulation or a sense of disconnection. Others come seeking clarity, balance or a deeper understanding of themselves. Our work together will be collaborative and paced to suit you. Whether you are exploring a specific issue or something less clearly defined, sessions are an opportunity to slow down, reflect and begin to make sense of your internal world within the context of your lived experience.
Beginning therapy or reflective work can feel like a significant step, particularly for those who are used to managing alone. I see this process as an act of strength rather than vulnerability. If you are considering counselling or simply want to explore whether this feels like the right fit for you, you are welcome to get in touch. I offer online sessions and would be happy to have an initial conversation to see how we might work together.
