About Jo

Hi, I’m Jo, a trainee therapist at Heartwood Counselling and Psychotherapy. I worked in the public sector for 15 years before deciding to use this experience to embark upon a career change. As a mother, daughter, colleague and friend, I realise the importance of listening and understand the value of being heard. Alongside my training, I work in a Primary School, where all the children have Special, Emotional and Mental Health needs. Seeing the challenges faced by the children and staff, I am reminded daily of the importance of relationships, building trust, and demonstrating acceptance. I aim to bring this experience into my practice, knowing how vital these values are to encourage and facilitate change.

Area of Focus

Depression and anxiety, bereavement and loss, health related emotional distress, and life transition.

What to Expect

I am training as an integrative therapist, which enables me to draw on different perspectives. My work is client-centred, meaning you take the lead and determine how we can make this time most useful for you. My aim is to provide a safe and consistent space where we can explore what is working for you and what it not and to rehearse any change to implement in everyday life. Above all to build a strong therapeutic relationship, where openness and trust are key.

Let's Connect

The decision to have therapy is a courageous act and I hope I may be able to support you to move forward, from whatever it was that instigated this decision.
